I’m currently in Paris …

I’m currently in Paris. One of the good things working for a Corporation is travel. No problem.

I had a “free” day for sightseeing today, as my education starts tomorrow. I was very tired, as we’ve been travelling a lot this weekend, so I just went to see the very basics - Arc de Triomphe and Eifell tower. Arc’s realy great, but I can’t understand why all those thousands of people I saw today were waiting to get on Eifell. If you look objectively, it’s just some sort of a giant crane. Nice to see, quite interesting, but what’s so cool about it that people stay in lines for hour(s) just to get on top?

Answer is: the name. Trademark, if you want. An image. Everybody that heard about Paris, know Eifell. So people that visit Paris like to say “I’ve been on top of The tower”.

Paris itself: very interesting city. Huge European metropole, birthplace of French revolution and most modern society. To me it’s a bit more interesting that London, as it combines modern with tradional much better. In London, you go sightseeing and guides will use the Royal family in each second sentence. It becomes boring very soon.

Paris is all different. Also very interesting when you’re trying to get around with everyday English. I had to be very patient today, as all the people at info desks spoke more French than Eng, which made even the simplest words sound un-understandable. Had quite a laugh, though. ;-)
